Envision IT Partners: Windows 10 Recommendations

Microsoft’s FREE Windows 10 upgrade is scheduled to disappear after July 29, 2016.  With this in mind, we know that many of you are wondering if this is the time to take advantage of the free upgrade and make the move to Windows 10 now.

Since its release Windows 10 has addressed many of the issues and concerns that we initially had with regards to its performance and compatibility but we still recommend you move forward cautiously.

Our Recommendations:
  • You will still be able to move to Windows 10 for free after July 29th if you purchased your workstation with Windows 10 but downgraded to another Windows OS.
  • Prior to a corporate wide move to Windows 10 we recommend you install Windows 10 on a handful of test systems and verify that your applications work properly and that all your printers, scanners etc.. work in the Windows 10 environment.
  • Understand that Internet Explorer 11 comes with Windows 10 so make sure all of your hosted applications and websites you use to perform your job work properly on IE 11.  If not you can test using other browsers if you still decide to move to Windows 10.
  • We highly recommend a clean install of Windows 10 vs the Upgrade.  This will require your system to be rebuilt and all applications reinstalled.  We understand that this is not always possible and the Upgrade path may make the most sense for you.
  • While the Windows 10 upgrade can be rolled back, doing this can cause significant issues, so plan and test thoroughly in order to ensure you don’t have any unpleasant surprises.
  • As always, please reach out to the Help Desk if you have any questions or experience issues with the new Windows 10 operating system.
  • Finally be aware that Microsoft is very aggressively pushing everyone to move to Windows 10 by utilizing pop ups and links to encourage people to upgrade.  We caution against having individuals upgrade on their own and strongly recommend you work with us to insure the move to Windows 10 is done properly to get the full benefits upgrading.
